Loan Forgiveness Program

Educator Shortage

A very challenging issue facing education is addressing teacher shortages in identified areas and the

retention of teachers within North Dakota. In part, the Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness Program

addresses these issues. Your assistance in communicating with teachers and students who might pursue

the profession in your system would be helpful.

The Teacher Shortage Loan Forgiveness Program will reduce the student loan indebtedness of approved

applicants by $1,000 per year for a maximum of three years for recipients who teach at a grade level or

in a content area identified as a teacher shortage area by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The following list may change and therefore checking with the Superintendent's office is encouraged.
